K's Bday at Home

On Kaelin's actual birthday we visited build a bear during the day for both girls (using money they received from grandparents).  That evening was her end of the season cheer ceremony, so we had dinner with Papa Tom and Grandma Barb the next evening.

For her birthday dinner/celebration at home, Kaelin wanted to go bowling for the first time! It was a blast! We had bowling pizza, bowled 2 games and then went back Aunti Amy and Uncle Brad's for Grandma Barb's cupcakes and gifts!

Quite frequently, the ball took a LONG time to make it down the lane. Waiting patiently:

Maybe if they lean, the ball will go that way.

She was also excited because later in the week she got to go on an outing with Aunti Amy.  They went to Long John Silvers and got shrimp for lunch! Then, they headed to Target to shop! Aunti Amy and Uncle Brad bought K a gift card to pick whatever she wanted.  She chose a cute tunic shirt and leggings, chapstick, lip gloss, and nail polish!

K - Upward Football Cheerleading 2012

Kaelin loved cheerleading for Upward Basketball through our church so much this winter, she wanted to do it for Football this summer.  We were blessed to have 2 of her coaches return. We love Ms. Bethany and Mrs. Rachel.

Here she is at the beginning of the season:

After a few games she wanted curls for cheer.  This is difficult to do because her hair is like mine and doesn't hold a curl.  I tried sponge rollers. We put them in in the morning and left them till evening and they worked, and held for 2 days!

August 6th was the 'award' ceremony.  They gave each participate a gym bag or backpack.  K received a purple backpack, which she has decided to use for school this year! The girls did 2 cheers.  Please ignore my bad photo and video. I was doing both at the same time, while Justin took care of H and L.

She loves this program through our church! She has already asked when she can start cheering again (this winter for basketball!)

Logan is 10 months!

10 months old on August 4th!  Crazy!!!!  He has such a personality, and it is really starting to show! Its actually really funny.  On a lot of things he is a happy medium between K and H.  H was always a huge snuggler while K didn't like to be held.  Logan will cuddle, but also likes to be on his own sometimes.  To get K to laugh as a baby you really had to work for it, while H was a very easy chuckler! Logan laughs, but it's more of a grunt - it makes every one around him laugh! He is VERY stubborn. It is going to take consistant determination on our part to train him to stay out of the fireplace and dog water.  He will go back over and over and over....

Clapping for himself.

He climbs stairs - quickly.  Time for a new baby gate!

He can hold his own bottle, but really prefers not too, so after a few minutes he will pull it out and drop it until someone else will hold it for him.

He has 2 teeth on the bottom!

He LOVES corn on the cob.

He really enjoys feeding himself.  Dinner tonight: Grated cheese, scrambled eggs, toast bits, and pears. Yep, we all had breakfast for dinner.

Here is a video of his head shake dance.  He especially likes to do this when the girls encourage him, which they like to do during meals of course.  This does NOT make feeding him easy!

He is adorable and a wonderful boy.  This weekend he spent almost all day in a carseat or stroller for 2 days in a row, and he was a champ! I was so proud, especially for how mobile he has become.  I have seen him take up to 15 steps, though he still prefers crawling, because for now it is faster for him.
It had to be hard for him.

Hailey's Bday at Home

Usually on the girls' actually birthday we go to dinner to celebrate with Papa Tom and Grandma Barb, but we weren't home this year.  So on August 2nd we celebrated late.  We went to Wedgewood for pizza (Hailey's favorite food), and then headed to the park.

It was awesome having Grandma Barb's niece Christin and her friend Hannah there!
They chased the kids :)

Christin and Hannah made cake pops for Hailey's bday.  She LOVED them, especially the frosting!

Hailey got a big girl bike! She was awesome! Hopped right on and rode for about 30 min.  She even used the brakes to slow down before going around a curve.....except for that last time. :( She ended up wiping out and giving herself a bloody nose, and her bike got it's first scratch.
She was a trooper though, and that evening climbed right back on!

She was even excited as the night ended, because the next day she got to go on a special outing with Aunti Amy.  They went to lunch at Chik Fil A and then shopping at Target.  Amy and Brad had pre-bought her a gift card and she got to pick whatever she wanted!  She chose a Dora dress and leggings, 2 chapsticks, a nail polish, a set of multi colored bobby pins and another package of hair clips.
She had a blast and was so excited to spend one on one time with her Aunti Amy.

Washington DC/American Girl Store 2012

This year our baby girls turned 6 and 4!  Usually we throw a big potluck part for both girls. This year we decided to take a long weekend trip instead.  We headed to DC July 28-31.  We stayed outside of DC in Tyson's Corner (thanks to Justin's traveling points).  It was wonderful, and had FREE parking!

We arrived Saturday afternoon, checked into the hotel, then headed to the Natural History Museum (the girls' favorite). This visit, we were able to wander through the butterfly tunnel.  Hailey liked to look at them, but was terrified that they would land on her.  Kaelin absolutely LOVED it.  She even got to hold a paint brush the butterflies landed on for her.  I didn't get many pics at all (especially of K), because Hailey wanted to go through pretty quickly, while K held back with our friend Kathy and her daughter.

Ready for our Sunday at Mt. Vernon (or George Washington's house - according to K).  Both of the girls have active memories of visiting here in April of 2011, and were very excited to go back.  They were also excited to use their new 'hiking' cups from Mrs. Shawnna and Mr. Paul :).  Our friends Kathy, Peter and their adorable daughter Claire were able to join us for the afternoon.  We haven't seen them in over a year, so it was wonderful to spend time with them!

Mt. Vernon has a wonderful education center! The kids especially love the young child area where there is a doll house replica of the home, style clothing to try on, dolls, books and many other hands on learning items.

Oh - and a cute picture of Logan :)

Monday was Hailey's actual birthday.  The hotel staff was awesome and gave her a Happy Birthday breakfast by putting a candle in a muffin.  It was very cute, but I didn't get a good pic!

One of the main reasons we went to DC was because there is an American Girl Doll store.  We didn't tell the girls, but completely surprised them.  We told them once we arrived, that they each got to choose 1 doll and an outfit.  Additionally, thanks to their bday cash from Papa Keith and Grandma Cindy, they got to pick another outfit and an accessory.  Instead of choosing the character dolls, they both chose "Look Like Me" dolls.

In the end they each picked a doll, 2 outfits (plus the dolls each came with another outfit) and a little puppy dog as their doll's pet.

After we chose all the dolls, dresses, dogs etc, we had about an hour to kill before our next surprise so we wander the AMAZING shopping mall.  Lego store, Apple store, Vera Bradley store etc. etc. etc.

Surprise #2 - Tea Party at the American Doll Store!

Getting ready to head back to the hotel for their final small surprise.

About a month ago Justin picked out the dresses the girls are wearing for them.  What they didn't know was that the dress also came with a matching doll dress.  We were finally able to give them to the girls at the hotel. Now they can match their dolls. :)  As soon as we got into our room everything doll related came out of all the adorable packaging for play time.

What we didn't know, was that Uncle Chris was working nearby! He stopped by that evening as a surprise for the girls (with an hour or 2 notice for us).  They were shocked!  We took the girls to California Pizza kitchen, where they made sundaes and sang to both girls.....and then we also had to get  Dippin' Dots because we had promised earlier that day.  There was a lot of sugar eaten that night.

Tuesday we headed home, but not before a visit to the National Air & Space Hanger.  We had been to the museum before, but not the off site Hanger.  The girls were bored pretty quickly, not fully understanding the history - but they did like the space stuff.  Justin really enjoyed it, and I think could have stayed longer.

It was a wonderful trip, full of fun for our 'little' girls.  It is amazing to me how quickly they are growing! I cherish the time we had together.
